Hi… Just want to say that generally your right about alot in your 1-15 points about norwegian culture.

I am a norwegian whos done some travelling, and one thing I’ve learnt from that, is that peoples variety in behaviour is large no matter where you come from. Your points is in a way pretty negative. To me it seems that you haven’t had good luck meeting kind, educated, reflected norwegians, as I do? Maybe its just because your a specialist in looking at the issues the way you do. It does seem like that to me, but please correct me if I am wrong, and don’t take it personal…

Uhm… one thing… While travelling in Asia, which people who shocked me regarding behavior, were bunches of alcholised british men, who not only eats bacon and fried unhealthy fatty junk food. But treated the Indonesian prostitutes in the clubs as filth! Well… for pointing it out.. Shouldn’t your people who has been a multi-international society for 200 years simply know how to respect other cultures? talking about racism, England has had just as much that problem in the 80’s right? and just as much today… But your not talking about that are you?
Many of your points are factors that excists in all countries, your own aswell.

Good for norwegian people that we still have free education, and the posability to get somewhere in life no matter if you come from a poor or a rich family. Good that the poor people can get smarter and developed, not becoming racist… you don’t have free universities in England do you?

Hell… In a way you seem abit of a racist, actually. You have spent some energy on making this homepage, which seems to me more as a hating message ridiculing the norwegian society, while you have so high thoughts about yourself…
Oh well… typical british and french. Arrogant up their own arses… And you… Maybe your negative attitude just is a reflaction on how you feel about yourself… lousy.

    Best Regards.

I reckon a web-page like this could be good for us norwegians, if it were any good. Most of the things you write here are not what most norwegians or foreigners residing in or visiting Norway would recognise. a) everyone complains about the vinmonnopolet, especially norwegians. b) everybody calls Hagen a racist, you obviously don`t read the newspapers or watch TV. You seem like a good candidate for the label yourself, come to think of it. c) norwegians buy eachother beer all the time in my experience, d) who in Norway is not aware of the language similarities with danish (especially) and swedish? The vehement egalitarianism is perhaps laughable to you, but it makes for a high level of taxation, and a reasonably well functioning welfare state. Maybe thats why norwegian working class people are less voulgar than their british counterparts? Whats with all the shouting, mooning, farting and burping?

    On the plus side:
Yeah we talk more about our war hero family members than we do about the many more that did fuck all during the war. That is pretty funny. Is that something particular for norwegians though? I reckon that goes for every nation, including your own.

Suggestions: I would put in the xenophobic attitude to the EU, but then again a lot of brits share that view. Another suggestion: the norwegian view of ourselves as an humanitarian superpower. That you should add. Also the fact that the biggest oilproducer in Western Europa has the highest prices on gas, but some of us think thats a good thing in this day and age.

Fine. But can either of you come up with any reasons for thinking Carl I Hagen isn’t a racist? I’m serious.
